This movie was about a single person's experience of both life and death, his own, and hers. The modern day story line is what really happened, the actual events. The other two took place within his mind and soul.
The Conquistador story line was about his obsession with life, but mostly death, it was his obsession with ...saving his wife. It became, ultimately, self-destructive.
The journey in the bubble was about his own journey through life. It began with him attempting to take the tree (his wife) to a place where it can survive (finding a cure). Only after the tree started dying did he realize that it was not about living on, not about 'curing death', but about rebirth, and that in order to be with his wife, he needs to let go, of everything, and be reborn.
Anyway, this is how I see it, and I hope that others see it their own way as well.(olvass tovább)

Lance - I think you're close. But I think it has much to do with the Buddhist path to enlightenment. Once Tommy conquered the fear of death and left the ship to face it, he achieved enlightenment, which triggered critical, positive changes in each of the storylines.
The Eastern symbolism in the ending sequence is unmi...stakable, and is about as subtle as getting hit by a car.
Tommy's repeated flaw/mistake was focusing on HER, and himself. When he finally saw what she wanted him to see, he realized that it was far bigger than both of them.
The Hindu theme of reincarnation is strong as well. In their previous lives, both of them were solely focused on Spain and their own existences. As their souls matured, their scope broadened beyond one country, or even one planet, and became the entire universe.(olvass tovább)

Lance Pelletier To me it's about being so obsessed with the fear of death that one forgets to live...

halo everybody the fountain is my favorite movie, because i think it hides a deep spiritual meaning. I think the story in the book is symbolized the inner psychic state that the girl is with her hopes about her illness for her man to find the cure as she has created her own kingdom..... second story is the simple reali...ty that we all leaving and understand.......... the third story is the inner state of him as he was trying to find the cure he was in a very deep meditate state as he was looking up for salvation for her and him too. But then in the critical moment as she was loosing up her strength ,he loosed his inner concentration and loose the last change to save her(olvass tovább)

Actually Natalia, it can be interpreted differently. Just like any part of this piece of poetical awesomeness, let's face it. It could be that the "past" is only the book, and that only present and future depict the life of the same man. Meaning the links made between the conquistador and Tommy (from the future) are in... fact his memories of his wife.
Again, there's nothing definitive in this masterpiece, and that's what I like the most about it.(olvass tovább)

The Fountain is a lovestory about life and death. Three parallel stories, one from the past, one from the present and one from the future.
As in the tree of life, which intertwines three worlds: the heavens, the underwold, and the human race.

Virginia G Salazar I can't stop crying! :-s

Kitty Incredible Emotion... the most spiritual film I ever watched.

Jonathan Elocius Villard one of the prettiest sequences, the conquistador walking in the queen's hall, surrounded by the levitating sparkling lights. The peaceful moment, transcending atmosphere...
