This is the most amazing movie I've ever seen. My husband didn't care for it, but I think you need to have a special sensibility to get this movie. Every time I see the movie, I see something else or differently or have a better understanding. It's hard to describee but I "feel" this movie-this movie actually touches me like I am remembering something in my past. So many remember "Death is the road to Awe" but this is not about death really it's about rebirth-you have experience (awe) death to be reborn-being together to be one. The ending really is all about rebirth. The imagery is suggestive of a fetus (he is inside a bubble with no hair) moving through the birth process (the most difficult thing we ever experience). He moves down a tunnel toward light then explodes-much the same experience as a baby at the time of birth being suddenly pushed into a world full of light, noise, being touched, and feeling. When a baby is created, 2 have been joined to make one. Anyway that's my understanding of The Fountain today, but I will probably get something else out of it the next time I watch it. |
