On the 2nd November 2009 is Kartik Purnima (Raas Purnima). Five
hundred years ago on Raas Purnima Shri Caitanya Mahaprabhu came to
Vrindavan. On that same Raas Purnima day, 26th November 1926, the deity
of Amiya Nimai Mahaprabhu
reached Vrindavan and was greeted with kirtan and celebration. Sri
Mahaprabhu himself visited th...ose spots in Vrindaban where Radha and
Krishn had performed various pastimes.
Perpetuating the same
tradition, till now the festival is observed every year in the Shri
Amiya Nimai Temple, Vrindavan. Always in this festival fullest
co-operation is obtained from late Ramdas Babaji Maharaj’s Vaishnav
devotees group every year his followers and devotees from Navadwip,
Kolkata and Puri come here to participate in the event. This festival
lasts for four days in the temple. During the first day, Adhiwas Kirtan
is performed by late Ramdas Babaji Maharaj’s group, the next day
learned scholars read aloud holy scriptures. On the third day, Kirtan
is done displaying the “Akrur Lila” as Mahaprabhu had actually come to
Akrur Ghat just one day prior to his arrival in Vrindaban. Then finally
a Vaishnav feast is held.
On the full moon of Kartik, in the
morning that lila discourse is done and delivered, in order to signify
Mahaprabhu’s arrival in Vrindaban. A procession starts off from the
temple at 4pm in front of Amiya Nimai (also known as Boro Gaur or Big
Gaur), and continuing through the streets of Vrindavan until 1 am, and
that procession particularly goes to those very spots, where Mahaprabhu
himself had personally cone. After that Kirtan of those lilas are done
which signify what feelings Mahaprabhu had developed, what moods He was
in, while He saw those spots pastimes of Shri Radha Krishn. On this
particular day, none of the main seven temples or any other temple
close until this procession reaches them and darshan is taken of the
each temple and a pastime is recited in the form of a poetic bhajan.
Finally the procession returns back to the temple where prasad is
distributed.
